So, despite what seemed to be progress with the ear thing the other day, my ears *still* hadn't cleared up. Since it's been about a week, I gave up and saw a doctor.
UGH. Now, I should mention that I don't take medications normally and am unable to swallow pills due to very large tonsils. Naturally, these facts add up to the doctor loading me up with not one but FOUR different drugs to fix my ear blockage problem. (It's not an ear infection, just a lot of blockage due to congestion from my cold.)
First thing - three doses (one each day for 3 days) of a tiny little Benedryl-like drug. That, I was able to swallow with water and no problem. It was coated and very small. Whatever.
Second thing - liquid Amoxicillon (and I'm probably spelling that wrong but don't care), 3 times a day for 5 days (or until the ears clear up). In yummy bubble gum flavor. No problem - I'm used to taking liquid drugs so I've learned to live with flavors. (Even though the dose he gave me in the office was MUCH more than the one sent home and it was full of badly-crushed powdery pieces of the drug - made me totally choke but I managed it).
Third thing - ear drops, 4 times a day until the ears are cleared. No problem.
Fourth thing - this is the *worst*. Steriods in pill form. It's a 6-day course, with decreasing dosage. Today, the doctor made me take 6 of them before leaving the office. (Tomorrow it's 5, the next day 4, and so on until they're gone.) Now, they're not very big but they're the crushed powder kind so despite two tries, they just get stuck on my tongue and they taste HORRIFIC. So the doctor had me dissolve them in water and drink it. Trust me, that is NOT a pleasant experience. It's so unbelievably bitter and the taste gets stuck on the back of my tongue/throat area and would NOT GO AWAY. I stole Tic Tacs and gum from Anndie, and sent her to the car for a warm soda...*ANYTHING* to help me get rid of that taste and finish taking the dose. The nurses were amused by this.
The important thing - I survived the first day of massive dosing, I can find solutions to down those damn steriod pills the rest of the week (dissolving them in hot apple cider seems like the best idea so far). Hopefully I'll be able to hear within the next couple days and the drug course is only 5 days. So, I guess I'll live. BUT DUDE...*I hate pills.*
On the positive side - I've managed 9 drabbles so far for the current
tinman100 challenge. I'm pleased. Plus this week is an easier work week, since both Monday and Tuesday are minimum days for my afternoon schools - means I get done early yay!! Wednesday: I *should* be done (as of last week) with subbing at the afternoon school I've been at the last 7 weeks, so hopefully I'll be done by 10am this Wednesday and can come home between that and the evening rehearsal for honor orchestra. By the end of the week, when I've got "normal" full days, my daily drugging should be at a minimum. The timing has just worked out that way.
