Tin Man drabble requests 2.0

I'm bored and restless. In the beginning stages of another epic Cain/Glitch story but far too fussy to focus on that alone.

Bring on the requests! Same limits apply as last time: Cain/Glitch or Ambrose/Cain; please no deathfic (at least not perma-death), bloodplay, etc. I'm pretty vanilla in my abilities! Make requests in the comments and I'll do my best to give you something for your time.

I'd love to see something based on this song. Doesn't have to be a songfic just related. I see it being Cain to Ambrose but that can be up to you. Lots of sadness/angst.

Flirty teasing banter including, if you can, the line:
"The less the brains, the bigger the hat."
Possibly happening at a formal affair (like a royal meet and greet or Welcome Back The Queen type thing).
Is that enough?

Oh please yes! How about something where Ambrose is using a woman as a cover while he's carrying on an affair with Cain, but hasn't the spine to cop to it in public just yet?

The lights that surrounded the entryway to the Twister Club had long since been shut down as Cain drove by for the fifth time that evening. It was his job as Captain to assign patrols in Central City, but seemed to end up doing his own rounds every night. His office was always so empty, so stifling at the same time.

One of his Tin Men had brought him a crumpled Wanted poster he'd found, joking about how his boss was a wanted man. Cain had given him a half-hearted snort but kept the flyer after the man had gone home. It brought back a strong set of memories he tried to keep deeply buried; if he let himself think about the journey he and the others had been on, it would lead to other, more personal thoughts best left alone.

The picture of Ambrose stared back at him, regal and stiff. 'That's a terrible picture of me,' Glitch had huffed while behind him, Cain and Raw had agreed. The man in the photograph looked nothing like the Glitch they had grown to admire and love. Glitch was beautiful, bright and full of life. Ambrose was for all intents and purposes royalty, if not by blood then by brilliance; he retained an air of dignity that kept him thoroughly in check.

Cain swallowed thickly as he stared at the faded picture on the poster. 'Glitch' was gone, replaced by the man in this picture. Ambrose, in all his genius and authority had simply been the stronger personality when the two halves of the brain were reconnected. Cain had never expected such a dramatic change to occur so quickly; Glitch had vanished literally overnight and Cain had found no difficulty in calling him Ambrose, as that was who he had become.

The poster joined Cain on his patrol that night. He folded it carefully and placed it in his inner jacket pocket to keep it safe from the slow drizzling rain that had been falling all day.

No doubt Ambrose was back in the palace, flirting and dancing with all of the beautiful women to songs about true love and happy children. Wyatt was grateful for one thing in all of this; he had a job that kept him out of that painful scene. He wouldn't have to watch from the side while Ambrose, in Glitch's lithe body, smiled at everyone but Cain.

As the first grey streaks of light came across the sky behind the clouds, Cain stepped out of his car. He left his hat on the seat, as it would have kept the rain from covering up his pain.

'squeeee' I love your drabbles! Vanilla? If your stuff is vanilla, honey, it's gourmet :) Let's see, hmmmmm How about a little pre-relationship jealousy from Cain or Glitch or
both? :)

"You look ridiculous in that," Cain eyed the small, round hat perched crookedly on Glitch's head.

Glitch frowned at him and pushed it down tighter. "DG insisted that we wear formal clothes for the reception," he pouted while brushing his hands over his stiff new jacket. "I've never been good at picking out hats, they tend to chafe the zipper." He adjusted it back to tuck the zipper pull under the back of the hat. "Does it really look so bad?"

Cain tilted his head and considered the look again. "I suppose not," he said slowly. "It's just...small."

"Well, you know what they say," Glitch sniffed at him. "The less the brains, the bigger the hat." He nodded sharply in agreement with himself. "At least, I think they say that."

"Who says that?" Cain asked, eyebrows furrowed in confusion. "Besides, aren't most of your brains still sitting in a jar?"

"People who sell small hats, I suppose," Glitch shrugged thoughtfully, choosing to ignore the comment about his brain. He grinned wickedly. "Your hat, on the other hand, is quite...um, impressive."

"Shut up and go dance," Cain pushed him into the bustling soiree room before he felt the need to defend his beloved hat.

"So, Ambrose, when are we going to meet your dear Nadine?" DG asked innocently over dinner one night.

Ambrose coughed as he got bread stuck in his suddenly tight throat. He glared at Cain when the Tin Man pounded just a little too hard on his back. "She's quite a busy woman, Princess," he informed her. He hoped his minor choking problem would cover for his flaming face.

"Yes, Ambrose, we would love to see for ourselves this wonderful woman you've been hiding from us," Cain said a little too enthusiastically. Under the table where no one could see he curled one foot behind Ambrose's calf.

The advisor kicked him and sent him a look that spoke of revenge. "She may be wonderful but perhaps I'm being cautious, as it is still early in our relationship and it may not work out," he said through clenched teeth.

Cain grinned at him and went back to his dinner. DG looked between them, confused, but decided to let it go for now.

**

Long after the rest of the family went their separate ways for the night, Ambrose heard his chamber door open and close behind him, followed by the click of the lock. He didn't have to turn to know who it was.

Strong, loving arms wrapped around him from behind and he felt soft lips press against the back of his neck. "So, Nadine is it, now?"

Ambrose huffed and turned in Cain's arms. "What's wrong with that name? It's a perfectly nice name."

Wyatt cringed. "I just don't feel like having a new name every other week," he admitted. "The next time DG, or Azkadellia, or even her Majesty ask you about your love life, why can't you just tell them 'Wyatt makes me very happy, thank you'?"

With a heavy sigh, Ambrose pulled away and sat down on the edge of the bed. "I'm still getting used to being me again," he said, looking down at the fidgeting hands on his lap. "For fifteen years, I forgot what it was like to be in love, let alone what kind of person I would have loved. Until you came along, no one looked at me with anything but pity or disdain. I can't imagine what the reaction will be the day I tell the Queen that her top advisor is in love with the Captain of the Tin Men."

Cain sat on the bed next to Ambrose and wrapped an arm around the slumped shoulders. "Do you love me?"

"You know I do," Ambrose turned his head sharply to meet Cain's eyes.

"And you know I love you," Wyatt continued, his fingers curling around tendrils of dark hair.

Ambrose nodded.

"So what does it matter what the others will think? I fell in love with you when you were still 'Glitch,' that should tell everyone something about us," Cain leaned forward to kiss him tenderly. "If you can tell me, you can tell the world."

Cain/Glitch.
Um, how about a conversation between Glitch and Cain where Cain talks about meeting him before when he was Ambrose.

Wow I didn't expect this so quickly, or so marvelous! You really captured the feeling of the song. Excellent, excellent job.

I have another for ya, this comes from an idea that appeared after reading someone else's story.

Cain is inspecting the old cells below the palace. He pauses outside a corner cell to write something down and when he looks up something in the cell catches his eye. Walking into the cell Cain traces his fingers over the carved words, 'MY NAME IS AMBROSE'.

Where it goes from there is up to you.

Hahaha, this is fantastic, just the type of thing I was thinking of.
You really managed to capture their voices and I just love the image of Glitch in a Bowler! I bet he'd look utterly striking with it set jauntily on his curls. ♥

[identity profile] surranndie.livejournal.com 2008-03-13 04:48 am (UTC)(link)
Glitch, for want of anything better to do on the days he forgot what all the shiny, noisy things in his old lab were meant to be used for, often found himself wandering down the halls of the palace. Down the stairs, to the left, guided by instinct he wandered until he recognized the corridor where Wyatt Cain's new office was located.

Not wanting to bother the Tin Man with his absentminded musings, Glitch glided past the open door and settled into a convenient alcove at the end of the hall. He smiled as he glanced out the window that overlooked the eastern garden, now in bright summer bloom.

Voices down the hall distracted him and he peeked around the corner.

Cain was seeing someone out of his office, a very attractive woman in a long, plain dress and carefully arranged hair.

As Glitch watched from his hidden perch, he saw Cain take both of her hands in his own and lean forward to kiss the woman's cheek. Jaw dropping in shock, Glitch stared for a moment as the woman ducked her head with a blush and a smile before walking down the hall toward the front exit.

Glitch had never seen Wyatt do that with anyone, let alone a strange woman.

Without thinking, Glitch stormed out of his alcove and stomped determinately down the hall. He caught Cain's arm before the cop could make it back into his office and Glitch spun him around, shoving him up against the opposite wall.

Cain gave a surprised grunt and tried to push back but found himself unable to budge the angry looking advisor holding him up. "What the hell is wrong with you?" he hissed, hands coming up to grip Glitch's upper arms.

"Who was that?" Glitch fumed, unsure himself of where this sudden rage was coming from.

Opening and closing his mouth a couple of times, Cain looked at Glitch in stunned confusion. "Who?"

"That...woman," the advisor nearly snarled. "The one you kissed."

Cain eyed him and shifted against the hard wall. "You mean my cousin?"

Glitch wavered and stumbled back, eyes wide. "Cousin?"

"Yeah, she saw that I was back on the job and tracked me down," Wyatt straightened and twisted the crick in his neck. "Family is important to me, Glitch," he explained gently. "I was taught to show them respect and love."

"Oh," Glitch breathed. He buried his face in his hands, stepping back blindly to lean against the wall behind him. "Oh gods, I'm so sorry, I don't know what that was."

Cain took a step forward and raised a hand to touch Glitch's chin, forcing the advisor to look at him. "Looked to me like you were jealous," he said carefully.

Glitch looked away as he thought about his own reaction. "Really? You think so?"

With a knowing smirk, Cain dipped his head and gave Glitch a teasing kiss on the lips. "Trust me, if I saw you kiss another person, I'd have had the same reaction."

"Oh!" Glitch grinned happily. "In that case, when I remember if I have any family, I'll be sure to introduce them to you first."

Hee! Glad you liked it! The song really did have a Cain voice to it.

A fic based on the poem Alone by Edgar Allan Poe, but with a happy ending. preferably from Glitch and/or Ambrose's POV.

Here's the poem if you havent read it:

From childhood's hour I have not been
As others were; I have not seen
As others saw; I could not bring
My passions from a common spring.
From the same source I have not taken
My sorrow; I could not awaken
My heart to joy at the same tone;
And all I loved, I loved alone.
Then- in my childhood, in the dawn
Of a most stormy life- was drawn
From every depth of good and ill
The mystery which binds me still:
From the torrent, or the fountain,
From the red cliff of the mountain,
From the sun that round me rolled
In its autumn tint of gold,
From the lightning in the sky
As it passed me flying by,
From the thunder and the storm,
And the cloud that took the form
(When the rest of Heaven was blue)
Of a demon in my view.

I would love a drabble on the theme of either one being swamped with some kind of boring paperwork and the other getting them away from it or out of it. Thank you! :)

Wow, That really sucked me in, I was ready to settle in for a novella at least, LOL, but don't have a heart attack. You get those two so well, I want to write just like you when I grow up! Well, not just like you...that would be plagiarism...you know what I mean :)
