Slices of smooth, orange warmth caressed Wyatt’s face and arms, his jacket having been discarded and currently serving as a place to sit while his sleeves had been pushed up out of the way. His upper right sleeve was a mess of dark, dried blood and powder burns, but the flesh beneath was clean and new.

As the suns made their way toward the mountains, their path taking them between the second and third ‘sister’ peaks, Wyatt couldn’t stop thinking how close they had all come to never seeing such a spectacular display ever again. How, if the bullet had been aimed just a little higher, just a slight bit more to the left, Wyatt would never have known who would triumph that day.

So many ifs that Wyatt had tumbling through his mind, struggling for dominance. If I hadn’t found Jeb, would any of this even matter?

The thought of his son brought a small smile to his face even as his eyes stung with tears of disbelief at his sheer, stupid luck at having gotten his only child back – alive, well, and so damn strong.

So lost in his thoughts, Wyatt never heard the footsteps approach from behind. He didn’t notice that he had company until he felt someone drop down next to him with some rare bastardization of grace and inelegance. Only one person that could be.

Wyatt wasn’t surprised that his continued ignorance was met with a disgruntled huff, but he was startled when his arm was unexpectedly lifted up and draped over the shoulders of a warm, solid, and familiar body.

Turning his head, he was met by a pair of dark, playful eyes and a confident grin. “What are you smiling at?” he grunted.

Glitch ducked his head and chuckled, then turned his head to watch the suns slowly disappear. “We’re alive.”

“That we are,” Wyatt smiled softly, watching the way the orange light traced its way around Glitch’s hair...shapes. How it turned the end of the zipper embedded high in his forehead a fiery color. Helpless to do anything else, Wyatt pulled Glitch to him with the conveniently placed arm and pressed his lips to Glitch’s temple.

He finally drew back and rested his own forehead against the spot he had just kissed, his eyes closed and a tiny, content smile gracing his tingling lips. Thanks to you.
